Nanowrimo

Yes.  I am a nanowrimo winner.

It was interesting, I had absolutely no intention to participate in this year’s Nanowrimo but found myself with a rough idea on the 1st and just started writing.  It’s still not technically done (the story, though I’ve hit 50k) but it feels rather good to have accomplished the goal.  I shall possibly try and wrap up the story by tomorrow.

It is by no means anything revolutionary in scope or content but it’s a bit of a fun, general fantasy romp using lots of English places and mythology.  I suppose it could be sort of modern urban fantasy but it roams over Europe and such.

I will be posting it as a rather long running serial at some point, it needs to be heavily edited (of course).  Obviously, it won’t be the best thing ever put to print but if anyone wants to know what sort of stuff that can get churned out at Nanowrimo this will be your serial.

The synopsis is: The Ravens in the Tower have all been murdered and all of England may fall because of it.

And an excerpt:

Donovan knocked on the heavy oak door three times and then waited. The door creaked open.

“Who calls upon the Vanguard?” said the voice.

“Donovan of Armagh.” Donovan replied, “I promise no violence toward all in the House, all therein shall be accorded the respect of brothers and kin.”

“Enter freely Donovan of Armagh, you shall be afforded the same as you promise,” Carmichael replied, unhooking the strong chain and opening the door fully. “About bloody time as well, your tea is getting cold.”

So if that seems at all intriguing, stay tuned for The Vanguard.
